Staff Members

 Terrie Batson: (Owner & Tap) Ms. Terrie began dancing at the age of 5 and began teaching at 15 for the Baldwin-

Copeland Studio of Dance. She taught students of all ages tap, ballet, jazz, Pointe, clogging, acrobatics. In 1989 Terrie moved to Atlanta and then to Raleigh where she taught dance classes at several studios. Upon her return to Wilmington, at 26, she continued to instruct students privately for pageants and dance competitions. Under her instruction many dancers have won numerous awards, scholarships and recognition in the dance arena and some have opened their own dance schools. Her routines and dancers have been awarded regional & national honors for choreography, dance spirit, overall placements, grand championships, etc. In 1993 Ms. Terrie opened Techniques In Motion School of Dance. She   attributes her teaching techniques, ethics and values to the traditional styles of Mrs. Betty Baldwin and in the most recent years to the styles of Mike Minery, Christopher Smith and Anthony LoCascio. She continues to gain enthusiasm and passion for her teaching from the importance of making a positive difference in her student's lives, being a role model and mentor and to the blessings of family, friends, past, current and future students and their families. Ms. Terrie is proud of her son Kameron King, who is one of twelve college students chosen from hundreds of UNC-G students to participate in the Disney College Program at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida this year and thousands applied from across the world!  Kameron will be in Disney from July, 2009 until January 2010...GO KAM!  Kameron had the co-Lead in the award winning Television Pilot, "Undoing Time" and has a Lead Role in the Wilmington based "Raven Rock" series as the character "Harper Lewis"...Ms. Terrie is playing his Mother in the series...her character is "Renee Lewis".  Check out Kameron's Spotlight page on the TIM homepage.  Kameron was a TIM elite KMotion character/hip-hop competition team member for six years.

 

Jennifer Spivey: (Artistic Director, Technique, Jazz, Lyrical & Ballet). Miss Jennifer began her dance training at the age of six. She studied under Baldwin-Copeland Studio of Dance, Danceworks & Techniques In Motion. She has been on the competition level since the age of eight and began assisting classes at the age of fourteen. At sixteen she began to instruct classes of her own. At 18 she was chosen from hundreds of dancers to tour the United States with Hoctor's Dance Caravan as a Caravan Kid. During the experience she studied all forms of dance from world famous instructors, choreographers & performers. She received a degree from Louisburg College in Dance Performance and relocated to Orlando, Florida to entertain & perform at Universal Studios. In 2001 she reunited with T.I.M. School of Dance and has since been awarded numerous choreography & specialty awards.

 

Kasi Lynch:   (KMOTION Competition Teams) Miss Kasi began her dance life studying numerous styles of dance throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York City.  She began doing choreography in New Jersey at the age of 13.  In March of 2003 she became a part of the Techniques in Motion family and during the dance season of 2004-2005 Miss Kasi became the instructor for KMOTION, Techniques in Motion's hip-hop competitive company.  Under her instruction many of her students have won prestigious awards for high scores, and many of her students have won specialty awards, scholarships, and other honors.  In an effort to give the students at TIM the best hip-hop education possible, Miss Kasi has continued her own dance education through conventions, workshops and intensives such as Monster's of Hip-Hop and the Pulse studying hip-hop under Jabbawokeez, Quest, Kaba Modern & Iconic Dance Crews from MTV's "America's Best Dance Crew", SYTYCD choreographers such as Nappy Tabs, Dave Scott and Laurianne Gibson, SYTYCD contestants such as Stephen "Twitch" Boss and Joshua Allen, and other prominent names in hip-hop such as Marty Kudelka, Chonique and Lisette, Flo-master, Barry Youngblood, Dena Rizzo, Darrin Henson,and many more world renown instructors and choreographers.  Miss Kasi currently resides in Raleigh continuing her academic education at North Carolina State University, working towards her Master of Science in Community Agency Counseling with the ultimate goal of working with the adolescent population.

 

Melissa Fowler: (Acrobatics) Mrs. Melissa has 20 yrs of dance experience in tap, jazz, gymnastics, and acrobatics. In

2002 Melissa began to train young students in tumbling at T.I.M. She rejoins the studio for her third year to instruct acrobatics classes. Melissa is a former member of Tumblebees Gymnastics team in Greensboro, NC and a 1986 performer on Sesame Street with Bob McGrath, 1986 Miss Cinderella Miss, and 1988 Miss Chadbourn Princess. She is also a certified Medical Assistant and bookkeeper for her husband's plumbing company.  Melissa has two daughters, Hayley and Hannah, in the TIM Performing Company.

 

Gretchen Merix: (Modern, Pointe & Ballet)  Mrs. Gretchen grew up in southwestern Virginia where she trained and competed with Blacksburg Dance Academy in the areas of ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and modern. She began teaching at BDA at age 16. While in high school, Gretchen also studied ballet at The Center of Dance under Carol Crawford Smith, a principle dancer with the Dance Theatre of Harlem. She attended Virginia Tech to study engineering, where she joined the Contemporary Dance Ensemble, a student run Dance Company. Since moving to Wilmington six years ago with her husband, Brandon, Gretchen has directed a dance and music performance to raise money for the Hokie Spirit Scholarship Fund and worked with Miss Kasi Lynch to direct a benefit performance to raise money for the local domestic violence shelter. She is currently working with Miss Lindsay Husch to produce a benefit show for the Rape Crisis Center. This coming fall, she will be participating in "Dancing with the Wilmington Stars" with Sheriff Ed McMahon for the 2nd year. She joined the staff of T.I.M. in 2006 and began traveling to competitions with the Performing Company during the 2007-08 competition season. She feels very lucky to have been given the chance to work with the students at TIM and is so happy to be a part of the TIM family.

 

 Malinda Hall: (Discovery Motion Tap & Ballet).  Mrs. Malinda began dancing at age 6 at the YWCA and later at Dian' Dance World. She was a performer with the Goforth Dancers for many years. One highlight of that time was when she danced at West Point Military Academy for the cadets and officer's wives. While at Dian's Mrs. Malinda taught students in clogging, jazz, tap and ballet. In college she started dancing at Danceworks and later taught tap and creative movement to students ages 3-6. Mrs. Malinda had the honor of working with George Lucas on the TV show "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" as well as performing in local theater as a choreographer and featured dancer. Mrs. Malinda and her daughters joined the TIM family in 2005 and are thankful for all the fun and friends they have made during their time here. Mrs. Malinda is currently a teacher in New Hanover County Schools where she has been employed since 1996. Mrs. Malinda began teaching at TIM in the fall of 2006 and is very excited about returning to the dance school as a teacher and looking forward to working with everyone in the Techniques family.

 

  

 Tara Webb: (Hippity Hop, Jazz & Hip-Hop) Mrs. Tara began dancing at the age of three, and from the first day of class has been passionately in love with everything about dance. She received most of her dance training at Wilmington Dance Academy and began seriously competing at the age of seven. At the age of sixteen, she became the principal dancer and assistant teacher at Cape Fear School of the Arts and by the age of 17 became the Jazz and Tap instructor for the Mini and Junior Competition companies. Tara continued to compete as a soloist and as a member of the Senior Elite team throughout high school. She has a true passion for creativity and a desire to have every student feel what it's truly like DANCE from the inside out. In 2009 Tara earned a Choreography Award for the Junior Jazz Company's routine "RUN" by Platinum Dance Competition Judges.

 

Lindsay Husch: (Stretch & Sculpt & Tap) Miss Lindsay began her dance training in Raleigh at the age of four and has been  competing since the age of seven in multiple dance elements. She has traveled all over the United States to participate in dance intensives in New York, Texas, Mississippi, South Carolina and Virginia. Lindsay has training in both Broadway and rhythm tap and has been influenced by both west coast and east coast styles. She began assistant teaching at the age of twelve and began teaching tap and ballet at the age of sixteen. She also was the captain of the dance team in high school where she choreographed jazz and pom routines. Techniques in Motion has become Miss Lindsay's new studio family and has given her some of the most happiest moments in her dance career. She has won numerous awards for her choreography and takes pride in her student's growth from year to year. 

 

 

Melodye Turner: (Part time Receptionist 20 year old Melodye is a Wilmington, NC native and began dancing at Techniques in Motion at the age of 7.  She has had training in various styles of dancing from Tap and Pointe to Modern and Hula.  With TIM studio she was given the opportunity to perform for several fundraisers such as: The Hokie Spirit Scholarship Fund and for the Domestic Violence Shelter.  For 6 years, she was a lead dancer in her church where she would perform several times a week for many different events.  Homeschooled most of her life she enjoys many activities such as fishing in Sneads Ferry, NC as well as skiing and volunteering for her youth group.  Currently she attends Cape Fear Community College where she is trying to enter into the program of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.  She plans to graduate from CFCC and begin working as an OB/GYN Sonographer with a Associates in Science Degree.  Melodye has loved dancing ever since she could walk and it will always be a part of her life !!

Timmy Sherrill: (Acting, Stand-up, Improv) NC ARTS COMEDY FESTIVAL 2009, 2009 CHARLESTON COMEDY FESTIVAL (crowd favorite), 2010 CHARLESTON COMEDY FESTIVAL-WINNER. Timmy has been an actor for the last eight years. In that time he has done theatre, voice over, television and film acting (HBO's "John Adams", "Bolden" & "El Camino"). In 2006, he became a member of the Screen Actors Guild. In 2006, he also started pursuing a career in Stand-up Comedy, where he has won festivals in Charleston, SC, Myrtle Beach, SC, and Wilmington, NC. He is now a writer, producer, director, and an editor. His love for the entertainment field, has also led him to teaching, both acting and standup. He enjoys helping others achieve their best, and in 2008 put together a kid's workshop called the "Popcorn Kids". This workshop included writing, sketch comedy, stand-up comedy, acting in film, and production. In 2009, Timmy opened the first full-time comedy club in Wilmington, NC. The Nutt St Comedy Room was designed, built, and diligently ran from scratch. It is now becoming the place to go for the best comedy on the south-eastern coast, both as an audience member and as a performer. In 2010, he produced the 1st annual Cape Fear Comedy Festival, which succeeded in having a total of 850 people watch eleven shows in four days.

Anthony Ransom Carabba: (Boys Hip Hop) Tony Carabba-Started dancing in April of 2008 and is self taught. Junior at
UNCW and President of UNCW's hip hop dance team Physical Graffeeti.  A isolation based hip hop dancer with basic knowledge of other styles such as breaking, krumping, and popping.

 

 

 

 

 

Erin Warren: (Elite Ballet)  From August 1984 to May 2000, Erin trained at the Chenango Ballet Theater under Donna Decker, who is the daughter of Irine Fokine (Michael Fokine's great niece. She maintained a studio and taught ballet to all ages from August 1995 through June of 1995. During the years of 1996 through 2000, Erin Minored in Dance at Ithaca College which consisted of training in Ballet, Modern, and Jazz Dance as well as classes in the History of Dance.

 

 

 

 

 

Whtiney Glenn: (Receptionist and Substitute Instructor) Whitney began her dance career at the age of 3 and joined Techniques In Motion at the age of 6. She has been on the competition team since she was 7 until she graduated in 2007 from Ashley High School. Whitney has won many awards and honors while attending Techniques In Motion. Some of these honors include Dance Caravan Kid, where she toured the U.S and danced under the instruction of Barry Youngblood, Haley Mac, Jerry Rose, Erin Lamont and many others. Whitney now attends the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she is getting her B.A in dance and her B.A social work. Whitney comes back during the summer to help out the T.I.M staff. She is thoroughly excited about joining us again for yet another summer.
